My sincere love for electronic dance and techno music led me to get into DJing about three years ago. It is a hobby that I am very passionate about. From DJing I was quickly led to producing my own music, and I now produce EDM as well as some hip-hop and R&B. That being said I am going to start a new segment on the website showcasing mixes from myself and my fellow local Chicago DJ’s. I am hoping to eventually make this a weekly post, but for now I am going to try to do one mix a month.
For the first installment I present to you a guest mix for a friends CD that I completed last week. The compilation is called The Burning Sky Collective by talented DJ and good friend John Blaze. The CD is composed of different mini-mix’s of each genre, usually 20 to 30 minutes each. My submission is called “Green Sky” and features tracks from Boys Noize, The Bloody Beetroots, and others. Its a nasty mash of electro house and some of that Nu Disco/Indie Dance that has been taking over as of late. The full track listing is below and comments are welcome, enjoy!
“Green Sky” Tracklist:
1. Alex Gopher – The Game (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
2. The Bloody Beetroots – Harvest Time (Original Mix)
3. Felix Cartal – Skeleton (Original Mix)
4. Evil Nine – The Power (Original Mix)
5. The Toxic Avenger – Escape (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
6. Djedjotronic – Gum Attack (Original Mix)
7. Boys Noize – Starter (Original Mix)
8. The Bloody Beetroots – Ezekiel Eats Red Hoodie (Original Mix)
9. Felix Cartal – Montreal Dreams (Original Mix)
As if this dancefloor destroyer wasnt already good enough, Canadian superstar Deadmau5 has teamed up with Pendulum frontman Rob Swire who delivers a worthy set of vocals to accompany the fat basslines. The vocals are a bit airy with just the right amount of autotune to remind you that this is not a rock anthem but instead a track from the EDM scene. Enjoy!
Lollapalooza is just a few weeks away and I must say I am really excited about this years line-up. What makes this year different? Aside from the usual slice of mainstream music, the addition of “Perry’s Stage”. Perry’s Stage features a killer line-up of electronic dance music acts from around the globe. The headliner’s include Bassnectar, MSTRKRFT, Simian Mobile Disco, Deadmau5, Boys Noize, KiD CuDi, Crookers, A-Trak, and The Bloody Beetroots.
With all that action set to unfold in Chicago’s Grant Park in August, it should be a great show for all those lucky enough to be in attendance.
Canadian EDM sensation Deadmau5 released a new single on his mau5trap label yesterday. While the title “Lack of a Better Name” might be non-descript, the track is another hit from the deadmau5 “disco den of despair”. With a string-filled breakdown complimented by a sprinkling of light piano keys, we see the trance side of the mau5. The melody continues to build until dropping into a signature Deadmau5 tech-funk with just the right amount of clicks and pops.
Beatportal.com has a great article posted about what tracks DJ’s around the world are using to rock dancefloors. They compiled it using all of the DJ charts that were submitted to Beatport.com for the month of June.
A fresh new electro house release from French label In & Out Recordings, the Chuckie remix of Chris Kaeser’s track “Who’s in the House”. Chris Kaeser is an internationally known French DJ and Producer, whilst Chuckie is representing the Dutch dance music scene. “Who’s in the House” features an epic breakdown which is complimented nicely by classic house piano stabs, before launching into an electro fueled drive sure to make anyone start groovin’ on the dancefloor. With a old school vocal sample, this track embodies the spirit of jackin’ house music whilst adding a modern twist that definitely pleases the listener.
Chicago producer Steve Gerard has his new Bugle Boy EP out today on Idiot House Records. On the A side we have an offering from the dubstep arena titled “The Hot Gates”. A creep overtone with distorted a schizophrenic bass-line and skewed piano chords in the background really round off this dirty and cheeky track. “Ice Chamber” is the next track, giving us a funky electro pluck with just the right amount of noisy percussion. Finally, “Im Yo Pusha Man” is a wacky tribal beat with a vocal sample in the background that repeats at just the right time.
If you’re the owner of the song or even the artist performing it and you don’t want it to be put online, feel free to post a comment and we’ll remove it as soon as possible.
