The Iowa City Special

Posted on 26 August 2009 by Marty Mac

Another new mix coming at you! This one is a bit old but still has the funk nonetheless. I made this mix in October of 2008 while I was staying in Iowa City for the weekend. Featuring tracks from Feed Me, Wolfgang Gartner, Dopamine, Miles Dyson and more! Enjoy!

Wolfgang Gartner – Fire Power EP

Posted on 20 August 2009 by Marty Mac

Wolfgang Gartner has released his new Fire Power EP on his Kindergarten label. The A side is nothing short of stunning, as to be expected with this rising star. Wolfgang Gartner has some serious production skills and this release in no exception. A kick that could suck the air out of a room is the anchor to the track. The percussion is complimented with a Justice-like harmony, very dark but still in your face. After the melody in the breakdown Wolfgang Garnter shows us the reason he has had several hit tracks on Beatport with a bassline that could knock you off your feet with the right sound system. It will be interesting to see how high this one goes on the charts, my guess is right to the top.

The B side “Latin Fever” is from the tech-house arena, although I think it borders on techno. A funky, smooth bassline, simple percussion, and a sharp stab all come together to form a worth addition to this EP. This would be a great song to play in the middle of a set, giving the crowd a break from the electro mayhem of Fire Power.

Check out Wolfgang Gartner’s Fire Power EP on Beatport.

Deadmau5 – FML @ Lollapalooza 2009

Posted on 18 August 2009 by Marty Mac

This electro house track from Deadmau5 surfaced a few months ago. Here is a video from Lollapalooza 2009 where Deadmau5 was headlining Perry’s stage. I love the crowds reaction after the breakdown.

Boys Noize at Lollapalooza 2009

Posted on 18 August 2009 by Marty Mac

This video is only 30 seconds but its 30 seconds of GET DOWN ON IT SON. Really trippy tech, tribal percussion and a high pitched lead that just wont stop. Boys Noize at Lollapalooza 2009.

MSTRKRFT at Lollapalooza 2009

Posted on 17 August 2009 by Marty Mac

This is a video I took at the Perry’s stage during Lollapalooza 2009 in Grant Park which is in the middle of downtown Chicago, IL. The video is of Canadian electro house duo MSTRKRFT playing their remix of D.A.N.C.E. to which the crowd goes nuts. D.A.N.C.E. is originally by French electro house duo Justice from album Cross. Distorted arpeggio’s, pumping bass and the suck & duck of sidechain compression mix together perfectly to form this dance floor destroyer.
